California Pears Celebrate Sac Farm-to-Fork Month
California pears are grown only 22 miles away from Sacramento, America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital. California pear farmers take pride in caring for their land and supplying the country with fresh, sustainably grown pears. We visited one of these pear farmers, Chuck Baker, in his orchard along the Sacramento Delta.
Take a look at this video captured in Chuck’s beautiful orchard:
The Sacramento Valley is surround by rich farm land and fruitful orchards. With so much fresh local produce harvested this month it’s no accident that September is deemed Farm-to-Fork month here in Sacramento. California pears have reason to celebrate this special time of year because almost every variety of California pears are ready to eat. Produce bins are filled with green, red, yellow and golden brown pears all month long.
In honor of Farm-to-Fork month, we are sharing this Pear Custard Tart with Cinnamon recipe created by local Sacramentan Erin Alderson of Naturally Ella. With a touch of warm spice, this creamy sweet tart is the perfect dessert to ease us into Fall. How does one dish so perfectly capture the essence of this golden time of year?
