BOB MCCLAIN
If anyone can teach a grower how to “build a better pear,” it’s Bob McClain. Born and raised in the heart of one of California’s pear growing regions, the Sacramento Delta, Bob provides a wealth of information on topics such as integrated pest management, disease control, accumulated cold hours, and anticipated harvest.
As CPAB’s Research and Field Director, Bob handles all aspects of the cultural side of the pear business, as well as production and post-harvest research. Bob works closely with the University of California, Davis on developing cutting edge methods to control pests and grow the best California pears.
Bob also manages the board’s inspection program for both fresh and processed pears. This program ensures that California Bartletts meet all state and federal standards.
