Be on the lookout for locally grown pears at Sacramento-area restaurants!
A few years ago, the bountiful California pears of late summer inspired August to be unofficially declared as “Pear Month” in the greater Sacramento area. The designation seems to have stuck, because August is the perfect month to eat, buy, and cook with pears here in America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital – just as a whole new crop of locally and sustainably-grown pears is showing up in stores and restaurants! These juicy, sweet fruits are hand-picked and cared for by farming families in the Delta area of Sacramento county as well as in nearby Lake and Mendocino counties.
In celebration of “Pear Month,” the California Pear Advisory Board is excited to announce that many Sacramento-area restaurants will once again be serving scrumptious pears on their menus. And why wouldn’t they? Summertime salads, refreshing cocktails, and pear-fect main courses are always something to celebrate.
In even more delicious news, last summer a number of local restaurants were generous enough to share with us their recipes for delectable pear menu items developed in honor of “Pear Month.” These recipes are now available on the newly revised Farm-to-Fork section of our website.
With all the festivities surrounding this sweet season, we invite you to join us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest where we will be sharing local pear restaurant offerings throughout the month of August. In addition, if you run into any amazing pear dishes in your favorite Sacramento-area eatery – we encourage you to share it by snapping a photo and tagging us – you might just be featured!
The time is now to visit a restaurant featuring California’s Golden Fruit with so many great local Farm-to-Fork restaurants serving up fresh pears – we’ll see you there!
